The Okaloosa Tax Collector processes Florida vehicle registrations and titles

New residents must obtain Florida license plates (tags) within 10 days of establishing residency, becoming employed or registering their children for public school.

To obtain a Florida vehicle title and registration, you must bring your vehicle, a valid state identification (such as an out-of-state driver’s license), title, verification of the vehicle’s identification number (VIN) and proof of Florida insurance coverage from a certified Florida agent or broker .

The vehicle owner must present to the Tax Collector documentation of Personal Injury Protection (PIP) in the amount of at least $10,000 combined bodily injury liability and property damage liability insurance in the amount of $10,000. Motorcycles, mobile homes and trailers are exempt from the insurance requirement. Commercial vehicles require additional Insurance coverage.

Nonresident military (those who are stationed here but maintain legal residence outside Florida) are eligible for lower registration fees. A copy of military orders is required to qualify.
